IELTS Article - A myth it all depends on who marks it

Friday, January 4, 2013

Let's look at one of the common "myths" about IELTS (International English Language Testing System). A myth is something many people believe, but is false.

I sometimes overhear students make comments that show they believe their test results depend greatly on who marks their papers or assesses their speaking.

For instance, I've heard students say they hope they don't get a certain examiner because he/she is "strict." I've heard others say that examiners at one test centre give higher marks than those at another test centre. Some students may also think their score could depend on the examiner's mood on the day of the exam.
